BUKAKATA.COM - In a move to restore faith in the graft-ridden Constitutional Court (MK), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has picked Saldi Isra, a law professor at Andalas University, as the new MK justice to replace Patrialis Akbar, who was arrested on Jan. 26 on bribery charges.Saldi is one of the three candidates submitted by an independent team tasked on Monday with finding a successor for politician-turned-MK-justice Patrialis, who is the second MK justice to be arrested for bribery after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) caught MK chief justice Akil Mochtar accepting bribes on Oct.2, 2013.
The other two candidates were Bernard Leodom Tanya, a lecturer at Nusa Cendana University Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, and Wicipto Setiadi, a retired official from the Law and Human Rights Ministry.
Saldi topped the list of the three candidates after he passed the selection process with the highest score, beating dozens of other candidates.
Chairman of selection team Harjono said he had received an invitation from the State Palace to attend the inauguration of Saldi as the new MK justice on Tuesday, April 11.
“I received the invitation from an official at the State Secretariat office. I asked the official who the new MK justice was and he said it was Saldi Isra. I will attend the inauguration at the State Palace,” Harjono told the Jakarta Post on Friday. (source: the jakarta post)
